Creative Class 6: Landscapes

Landscape photography with my Canon 5D has opened up new doors. Primarily I have a true 17mm wide angld field of view. This came in handy when photographing the Rockies. Secondly, the resolution and low noise is great for those times when you don’t have your tripod ready. I always try and use a tripod, but its good to know you can crank up the ISO a little and still have a great file. I am consistently looking for new gear to better my abilities of capturing the best landscapes presented to me. Inevitably it boils down to the photographer and the lighting. That is why I am always trying to be out in the woods, more than I am already.

Editorial 6: Central Missouri Speedway

What do you do on a Saturday night in Warrensburg? A question often asked. Well, this last weekend my girlfriend and I chose to go see the dirt track races on Highway 13, just north of Warrensburg. We had a blast! The temperture was perfect, the cars were loud, and the fans were fun too. I knew there might be some interesting faces amongst all those race fans. To my joy, the clouds were very dramatic and made for a great backdrop to the race track. I am glad I had my earplugs, because it is too loud without them. I don’t care what anyone says, you are losing hearing if you don’t where them…its not you just getting used to the noise.

Editorial 5: Kansas City Tea Party

Lower taxes, less government control, and more fiscal responsibility were a few of the many topics at the recent Tea Party in Kansas City, Mo. On April 15th, tax day, thousands of Americans voiced their opinion on the governments lack of accountability and responsibility. This peaceful protest was not a one party gathering, rather a group unified by the common belief of the government spending too much and taxing excessively as well. I attended both as a supporter as well as photographer. It was a great experience and opportunity for some excellent images as well. The main idea I wanted to portray was the variety of people and attitudes. I did not see just young people, or just elderly people, it was a mixture of all ages. I saw blacks, whites, and Hispanics amongst others I probably didn’t see. The enormity of these Tea Parties were downplayed by much of the local and national news organizations, even in Mid West America. This shows the declining honesty much of the media is suffering from. Even the local Kansas City Star had their own account of the event that did not give the credit due to this protest. Here are some images to show the scale and attitudes at the Liberty Memorial in Kansas City where the Tea Party was held.

Editorial 4: Fly Fishing in the Ozarks

Fly fishing in the Ozarks is an awesome experience. With the clear, swift, and beautiful trout streams combined with the steep bluffs, crystal clear water, and the wildlife that abounds on the lakes, there is nothing better.

Recently I went with a good fly fishing friend to the North Fork of the White River in the pursuit of a good time and good fishing. We were successful at both. The trout fishing was awesome! I caught over 30 fish that day, while Kevin caught the largest fish: an eighteen inch Brown trout. After a day of fishing the river, we decided to head to the lake for some warm water fish. Taking my Dad along was a good idea since he was most successful and provided a dinner of fillets. White bass, small mouth bass, Kentucky bass, and walleye were among the species caught that outing. Colorado: Rocky Mountain National Park

I am in Colorado for the week and spending as much time photographing as possible. I apologize for not updating my blog but I am literally too busy making images to spend much time on the laptop.
