Going out for a daytime expedition, I was able to put my 5D to the test a little more. Needless to say, I had an awesome time and came away with a few decent exposures.

Cool Twilight

Ending an evening of photography with single digit temperatures, I pause once more for this final capture.

Finding a calm palce to stand in the water, I set my tripod and began capturing the convergence of lines and colors.

As the sun sets the colors begin to transform, blend, and create a serene scene.

After working all day, I was ready to get in a few images before the end of daylight. Heading down to the lake, I saw numerous opportunities for image capture. Always one for a good reflection, I used varying angles to achieve the most aesthetically pleasing image. I hope you enjoy.

Oh yea, as I was making this image a Bald Eagle flew over so close that I could hear its wings flapping through the air. Awesome.

Having not posted in awhile, I figured it was time for some new stuff. Something maybe out of the ordinary. I have enclosed a collection of examples of my new favorite digital post processing technique: sepia.

The use of sepia has become more of a genre idea instead of the commonality it use to serve. Many say that sepia gives photos a sense of elegance or artistic quality. I found one website that regarded sepia as the tonality that makes everyday scenes into art. Well, I am all about taking ordinary scenes and turning them into art. I do go a step further and capture scenes that are common, but not ordinary. They are not ordinary because most people do not take the time to see them.

I hope you enjoy these images. I usually shy away from  extensive photo post processing, but I feel that I was not excessive. In order to enjoy some artwork, you must first put aside preconcieved ideas on how something should look.

Well, once I again I have gotten in the habit of not regularly updating my blog. I can not use the excuse that I was busy, because I wasn’t. I just was enjoying my Christmas break. I have been busy editing photos though. Tonight I am uploading some pics that were taken awhile ago. The glory of digital shines again. It is so easy to pull up an old image and do another version of it. I recently found that I have passed over some great images that I took awhile back. Well, I used some newly acquired techniques in Photoshop and created some nice pieces in my mind. Enjoy and have a nice Christmas.

Amongst the Trees

There is something miraculous about sitting amongst full grown trees. It is easy to fall into a deep philosophical trance when thinking about a trees life. I will not do that in writing, but you should try it some time. The memories I have where the only witnesses were the trees around me, are some of my greatest. The silent observers are always around and therefore always watching.

geese-triptychThis will make four posts in one day, oh well. I usually wait and spread out my uploads, but I figured that the reason I take photos is so that I can show them. Enjoy.

Lions Lake Wide Angle Panorama

Okay, so sometimes I get a little cocky. But seriously, isn’t that a spectacular sky? I had a wonderful time tonight, but now I must do the dirty work. Editing 270 images can become tiresome, so bear with me.

The panorama may look kinda small, so here is a link to my flickr site where it is a little larger. http://flickr.com/photos/matthewsphotography/3098477991/sizes/l/

Rocky Mirror ImageLooking back on some of my older photographs, I began seeing things I hadn’t seen before. I see details, textures, lines, and colors I hadn’t noticed. I enjoy the benefits of digital because of the simple fact I can review any number of photos I have taken in a matter of seconds. This leads to constant creative excercises of the mind.

With the included image I tried a square crop. Before, this image lacked a sense of solidity. NowI feel it is simple yet complex, flat yet textured. Cropping out some of the image lends to its mirror type look. Including only what is necessary in an image can lead to simple yet powerful displays of visual stimulation. I may be uploading a whole collection of square cropped images very shortly, so stick around.

This image makes me want to go take some more like it. SO, I will go right now. Well….after I make some coffee.

I have a myriad of images I would love to share with you…unfortunately for you I am too busy. Lets see, I need to make some images, print some images, and sell some images. Oh, besides the fact that I am putting on my boots to go shoot some “waskly wittle wabbits”. Off I go, enjoying my life and nature at the same time.

I did have time to upload one exceptional image. Enjoy.
