This week for Creative Photography, we had to shoot panoramic images. I have been doing panos for awhile now and continue to love them. I sometimes think back and wish I had done more in a particular area. Not only do yo uget a wider field of view, but you also get a huge file with tons of detail. My Canon 5D has opened up my abilites even more in regards to quality.

My technique for panoramas varues depending on the situation. I try and shoot vertically which allows for higher resolution, but this is not always the case. I find that I line the images more level when hand holding than I do when using my tripod. There is an apparatus that is specifically used for making panos, but it is very specialized and expensive. I of course shoot RAW, and the lowest ISO that is acceptable.

The images below are a mixture of all the above mentioned techniques. Hope you enjoy!

Going out a second time to Knob Knoster turned out to be productive once again. I went out yesterday morning and snagged this HDR image of the sunrise. I love taking photos of the sun shining through the tree tops. Something about the emotions it can evoke always has interested me. I was going to go out this morning but the weather was less than pleasing. I don’t mind cold and I don’t mind snow but when it is cold and there is no snow as well as no interesting sky, I seem to value sleep more. So I sip my Espresso blend coffee and enjoy the climate controlled environment.

Check out my new page I added last night. Click here to see what gear I use. Also, you should see my latest photos on flickr. I apologize, but many of the images are also seen here on naturallycomposed. This is done so that when you click on the image, you are sent in a separate window to flickr. If you experience any problems on my site, please notify me so I can fix them. Have a good day.

Knob Knoster Day 2

Having not posted in awhile, I figured it was time for some new stuff. Something maybe out of the ordinary. I have enclosed a collection of examples of my new favorite digital post processing technique: sepia.

The use of sepia has become more of a genre idea instead of the commonality it use to serve. Many say that sepia gives photos a sense of elegance or artistic quality. I found one website that regarded sepia as the tonality that makes everyday scenes into art. Well, I am all about taking ordinary scenes and turning them into art. I do go a step further and capture scenes that are common, but not ordinary. They are not ordinary because most people do not take the time to see them.

I hope you enjoy these images. I usually shy away from  extensive photo post processing, but I feel that I was not excessive. In order to enjoy some artwork, you must first put aside preconcieved ideas on how something should look.

Reminants of Fall

Well, I believe fall is in full swing and that winter is following very shortly. As you can see from the image, the trees are clearing their branches of leaves and the water is sweeping them down the streams. I have a busy week but I hope to get out to “Red Rock Corner” maybe once. If not, don’t be alarmed, I will still upload photos. I have a few thousand in my library that would love to star on my blog. 🙂 Well, it has been a long weekend and will be an even longer week. I am off to bed, dreaming about the Canon 50D and my new 70-200mm lens that is in the mail as we speak.

After a very chilly morning, the sun warmed up the day and it was absolutely lovely. It was if you were wearing a coat that is.

I took a walk to one of my favorite spots at Knob Knoster State Park this evening. I was anticipating fall colors on the trees, but to my surprise, there were more leaves on the ground then in the trees. Well, adapt and improvise. I began to focus my attention to each puddle, every cluster of leaves, and every relfection. I believe my back is sore from all the crouching and bending I did. That means I was doing a good job. 🙂 Anyways, I have included a small gallery of what I would consider, an initmate view of autumn. Hope you enjoy. Oh, and stay tuned for a great moment I captured tonight! I am sure the story will be up very soon, considering it was awesome and I want to share it with everyone. I depart now, getting my “zen on” to “Allian Bougrain Dubourg & Arno Elias”. Look ’em up if you do so feel inclined.

Walking back from taking the previous uploaded images, I came about this leaf. Call it a serendipitous moment. This leaf was precariously hanging by the reminents of a spider web. It was intriguing. I think to myself: its fall, this leaf just fell, prolonging its journey to the earth, and the reminents of a spider web is all that is left in its way. The seasons are changing and the leaves will soon be brown and the spider webs nonexistent, but I captured this moment. The leaf is on its own, the frost shortening its last breaths.

I apologize for the delay in output of images. I have had a busy and at times stressful weekend and therefore had to prioritize. I now will upload a few images that were taken this weekend. The colors are great and the weather was great, no need to say more.

Sometimes I feel that I should just let my photos do the talking. Here is one of those times. What I get from the photo may be completely different than you, so if you feel inclined to share your thoughts, by all means do. If not, enjoy it for what it is.

I believe the time is finally coming. I have heard reports of leaves changing to their vibrant colors now, but I personally have not seen too much until recently. I am happy to see the leaves are making their way to other tonalities. I shot the included image south of Clinton, Mo. I actually shot two images and stiched them into one larger file, to allow more detail. In other words, instead of composing a more zoomed out shot, I shot two closer cropped shots horizontally and merged them into one larger image. I like how you can see the slight variations amongst the leaves. It lends to using your imagination to figure what color the leaves are going to turn exactly.

Walking amongst a green field this weekend just before sunset, I saw this configuration of trees before me. It was so beautiful and peaceful. The air was getting cooler, and the sunlight was getting warmer. I set up my tripod, composed, and exposed this image. I just love the way the light reflects off the leaves and the colors are so vibrant. I believe that the tree on the right gives the image an intriguing value, while the trees to the left solidify the image. It was an awesome moment that my photograph can only attempt to be a model for the feeling in real life.
